Rubee Prattley-Jones
Rubee Prattley-Jones (they/them) is a queer artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland, who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Canterbury. Rubee has a sculptural and object-based practice that incorporates a variety of media, including clay, fibre, and natural found-materials.
Interpreting the natural world through ceramics, Rubee creates forms influenced by water and the environments that surround bodies of water. They are inspired by forms and textures found in nature – sand, shells, driftwood, rocks, and things that have been carved by water, sea creatures or ancient geological processes.
Rubee uses stoneware clay and prefers handbuilding for its textural qualities. They make both decorative and practical homewares as well as sculptural pieces.
